Teela Bauer, V. The Boeing Company
The Bauers sued Boeing for negligence after their son was born with birth defects allegedly caused by Thomas's workplace exposure to chemicals, prompting Boeing to argue it owed no duty to a child not yet conceived. The court ruled that Washington law recognizes an employer's duty of care to a not-yet-conceived child and that the exclusivity provision of the Industrial Insurance Act does not bar a child's claim for a separate injury resulting from their parent's employment-related disease.

Savage v. Timsah
The Kansas Supreme Court held that the district court erred by awarding attorney fees to plaintiffs in a slander-of-title case, concluding that such litigation costs cannot be recovered as damages absent a specific statute, contract, or third-party exception. Because the fee dispute involves fees paid during the slander claim itself rather than a separate action, the court reversed the lower courts' rulings.

USA v. GRAVES
ORDER denying 37 and 51 Motions to Suppress as to JARED M. GRAVES (1) - The Government has met its burden to show by a preponderance of the evidence that reasonable suspicion supported prolonging the traffic stop to conduct a K9 sniff. The court issuing the search warrant for Graves's home had a substantial basis to find probable cause to issue the warrant. The good faith exception applies in any case. And Graves has not made the substantial preliminary showing required for a Franks hearing. The Court accordingly DENIES Graves's motions to suppress, dkts. 37 and 51, and motion for a Franks hearing, dkt. 39 at 25. (See Order.) Signed by District Judge Justin R. Olson on 5/14/2026. (JSR)

Izrael P. Westbrook v. Daniel L. Jones
Izrael Westbrook was injured in an accidental shooting at the Joneses' residence, where the child, Kahmeron, was adjudicated delinquent for possessing a weapon. American Family Insurance denied the claim based on a policy exclusion covering occurrences arising out of criminal statutes for which an insured is adjudicated. On appeal, an appellate court affirmed the circuit court's summary judgment, ruling that the policy exclusion prevents coverage for Westbrook’s claim.

Moreno v. Ranger Energy Servs.
The Supreme Court held that the negligence in prosecution exception to the New Mexico savings statute does not apply to the plaintiff’s case following a prior redefinition of the law, but it affirmed the lower courts' decision to dismiss his second lawsuit. The court ruled the plaintiff cannot benefit from the savings statute because he did not timely commence his initial action in Texas, meaning his refiling in New Mexico was barred by the statute of limitations.

CARTER (TYLER) v. STATE (CRIMINAL)
Tyler Daniel Carter appealed a conviction for reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm and for violating the duty-to-stop statute at the scene of a crash. The Supreme Court ruled that the State presented insufficient evidence to convict Carter of leaving the scene and reversed that charge, while affirming the reckless driving conviction and remanding the case for resentencing considerations.

Glennon Bobo v. Anne-Marie Burkhammer and Taylor Burkhammer
Glennon Bobo appeals an Arkansas circuit court adoption order of his two children, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction because the mother failed to file a written, executed consent to the adoption. The Arkansas Court of Appeals affirmed the circuit court's decision, ruling that Bobo failed significantly without justifiable cause to communicate with or provide for the children for a year, which rendered his consent unnecessary.

Jon Schwartz v. State of Arkansas
Jon Schwartz appeals his conviction for possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia, arguing that the police unconstitutionally extended a traffic stop to wait for a drug detection dog. The Arkansas Court of Appeals affirms the decision, finding that the officers possessed sufficient reasonable suspicion shortly after the stop began due to his nervous demeanor and refusal to open the vehicle's compartments.

Jermaine Lawson v. State of Arkansas
Jermaine Lawson appeals the denial of his postconviction petition alleging ineffective assistance of trial counsel for failing to object to leading questions, inform the jury of a suppression motion denial, and perform background checks. The text indicates the appellate court affirmed the denial of the petition, but it cuts off before resolving the legal arguments made by the appellant regarding these claims.

Cinda Haddon v. Ladarius Vanlier
This case involves a dispute over whether a plaintiff injured in a car accident can recover prejudgment interest from her uninsured motorist carrier when the action proceeds based on her personal injuries rather than a contract. The Supreme Court held that the case was a personal injury action, which does not permit prejudgment interest, and it reversed the Court of Appeals to reinstate the trial court’s judgment denying such interest.

WHITEHEAD v. CORNERSTONE RX, LLC and HUENERGARDT
Lora Whitehead, as personal representative of her late husband Kyle, sued Cornerstone RX, LLC and Greg Huenergardt for breach of fiduciary duty and an accounting following the business owner’s death. The litigation resulted from the estate's motion to disqualify Riffel, Riffel, and Benham, PLLC, the defendants' counsel, due to a conflict of interest stemming from the attorney's prior representation of the deceased owner and involvement in setting up a new entity related to the pharmacy business. The Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals affirmed the trial court’s order disqualifying the Riffel Firm, ruling that an attorney-client relationship existed with the estate and that the prior representation was substantially related to the current dispute.

Rebecca A. Niebuhr v. Jacob Sieberg, Timothy Sieberg
A business owner died when his employee lost control of a vehicle owned by the employee’s parents, leading the victim's mother to sue for wrongful death. The Supreme Court ruled that the Safety Responsibility Act imposes vicarious liability on vehicle owners for a permissive driver’s negligence even when the driver is personally immune from liability under the Workers' Compensation Act. Consequently, the court affirmed the Court of Appeals and allowed the parents to be held liable.

In Re: Judge John C. Reeves Seventh Judicial District Court Parishes of Concordia and Catahoula State of Louisiana
The Louisiana Supreme Court reviewed the Judiciary Commission's recommendation to suspend Judge John C. Reeves for 30 days without pay after he accepted a $100 bill from a litigant following the signing of a judgment of possession. The Court rejected the Commission's proposed punishment but instead upheld the finding that the judge violated the Code of Judicial Conduct by imposing a final 20-day suspension without pay. The Court applied factors from prior precedent to determine the appropriate measure of discipline given the isolated nature of the act and the need to maintain judicial integrity.
